Welcome
Welcome to <strong>The JamHouse Forum</strong>.

Hi, I'm Tony Avery, founder of The JamHouse. The JamHouse is a free jam club whereby musicians and vocalists actually gather to jam and perform with one another in a friendly, easy going, non competitive, and fun atmosphere. The motto of The JamHouse is: Musicians Honoring Musicians. And it is within this spirit that we meet, play music, and socialize with one another.

The JamHouse Forum is an extension of The JamHouse and is used by The JamHouse members and guests to better know one another. The forum can also help in scheduling jams, rehearsals, gigs, parties, cookouts, and other events within our membership.

The JamHouse provides a place where member musicians and vocalists can come to enjoy socializing with one another and to jam, form bands, rehearse, collaborate, and to have a great time playing the music they love. The JamHouse opened on Dec. 8th, 2007 with 23 members in attendance and has been going strong ever since. While originally our jams were held on private property and open to a limited number of members per jam our member base has grown to the point where we now meet at local venues around Raleigh where our numbers can be better accommodated. Venues such as Fat Daddy's, Reds, Tailgaters, and most recently The Pickled Onion and Bone Daddy's Hideaway.

By joining this free forum and music community, you will be able to read and post topics, you'll be able to communicate privately with other members (PM), respond to polls, upload content, and access many other special features such as email, right from our forum. Registration is fast, simple, and absolutely free, so please, <a href="/profile.php?mode=register">join our music community today</a>!

JamHouse members receive notices and email invitations to jam. When you receive an invitation it is important that you RSVP your intentions to attend, or not, for any particular jam. Another musician can be invited in your place if you cannot be here. Space is limited, even at venues around town, and we wish not to "over invite" and become over crowded. Overcrowding results in less quility playing time for all.

As a forum member you are encouraged to submit a member bio, song list, and any other info that will help members to better know one another. Of course attending our jams is a fast and fun way to meet other members.

Thanks for visiting The JamHouse Forum. Please consider joining our jam club and register. You will then be ready to start attending our jams and other events. Please call on me if I can be of any assistance to you.

The JamHouse will be back on the road again with jams and shows starting Saturday, Sept. 11th, at The Korner Pocket. We'll have two more shows there in October; Saturday Oct. 16th, and Saturday Oct. 30th.

All JamHouse members and friends are invited to join in the fun. Our jams and shows will run 8 PM till 1 AM. There will be playing time for you, acoustic or electric, as a solo artist or even with a full band, if you preregister. Just give me a call, first come first served, so to speak. We'll fit in those that simply walk in as best we can as time allows.

Oct. 30th will be our Halloween jam and show. This will be a costume event for those who'd care to participate. There will be a prize given to the person voted best costume, and for 2nd and 3rd runner's up, as voted on by those attending that night.

The Korner Pocket has some of the best food around and has your favorite beverages too. Be sure to check out their web site at http://www.kornerpocketsportsbar.com.

I hope to be seeing you at some of our JamHouse events.

Thanks,

The show held July 3rd at Bonedaddy's during "Promise To Thomas" was a real blast:

"2nd Spin" along with other bands played at Bonedaddy's Hideaway in Raleigh on July 3rd during a benefit show, "Promise to Thomas". Thomas, a one year old, and grandson of JamHouse member and friend Robert Hendrix, needs help after having major transplant surgery. All proceeds from this event went directly toward Thomas's medical bills. "2nd Spin" played at 7 PM, followed by several other local bands.
See: http://www.photoshow.com/watch/Zf4AS3gA

Your support was greatly appreciated. "Thank you" from Thomas, Robert, and from the members of 2nd Spin which include:

Alan Camilli- lead guitar & lead vocals
Neal Harrington- rhythm guitar & vocals
Tim Lassiter- rhythm guitar & vocals
Tony Avery- bass guitar & vocals
Rod Bono- drums & vocals

Thank you "Better Off Dead".

*** A message from our good friend Rich Saltz and "Better Off Dead". ***

From: Rich Saltz <rich@dynamicrehearsal.com>

Subject: BETTER OFF DEAD - OUR FINAL THREE SHOWS:

WHAT A LONG STRANGE TRIP ITS BEEN.

After three years of paying homage to THE quintessential jam band, The Grateful Dead, we have decided that the long strange trip should come to an end. It’s been a great run making the music and relationships along the way. We would like to thank all the great musicians who participated in the project. Your talent and creativity helped enormously in the development of the music. A special thanks to the venues and promoters who gave us the opportunity to play and share this music that we are so passionate about. Most of all we would like to thank everyone who came out to hear us play. Your presence and vibe was an inspiration which drove us to play and create the music. Without you, we couldn’t have taken it to the levels we did. We are honored to have been able to share that with you.

We will be doing three more shows before we close it out. We will be at Bonedaddy’s Hideaway on May 15th, Southern Village in Chapel Hill on May 30th and Six String Music Hall on June 12th. We hope you can make it down to one or hopefully all of these shows.

Peace and Love to All.

Singing, "Thank you, for a real good time!"

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

And thank you Rich and "Better Off Dead". I appreciate all of you have done by supporting us all and by adding a little of "The Dead" to Raleigh's music scene. It's been great. I wish all of you the best in your future projects.

Yours in music and in friendship,
Tony

See the photo slide show of our John Lennon & The BeatlesTribute & Jam at MVP's.

Thanks to everyone who attended our tribute show. Over 70 folks attended. Due to copyright laws the photo show does not contain Beatles music. I hope the music included reflects some of the mood the photos suggest. I hope you enjoy the show. The link appears below as well as the original invitation to the show remains:

*** John Lennon died on December 8, 1980. Can you "Imagine" our music scene of today without the influence of John and The Beatles? No, me either.

You are invited to celebrate the life and times of John Lennon and The Beatles by joining us in a free tribute jam and show. Join us for some fantastic music as played by JamHouse members and guests. We will jam and also be entertained by at least three special performances.

Thanks, Tony.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JamHouse members Rod, Tim, Doyle, Jeff, Ken, Cricket, Rob, Mike, Robert, Brian, Adam, performed at our tribute show. Several special guests also took part in out show; Phil Okrend, Jordan Okrend, Beatle Buck, Charlie, and Doogie. There was a surprise for everyone as an all acoustic set of Beatles tunes was performed by Jeff Larsen of the band "Laughing Through Your Fingers" and friend Kristen Van Dyke. Jeff played acoustic guitar and Kristen accompanied Jeff on the cello. This was very interesting and very good. Jeff also related to us some little known facts of Beatle trivia.

Phil and Jordan Okrend, keyboard & electric guitar, performed a special tribute set of about 40 minutes. Jordan, Phil's son, Jordan, is a very talented vocalist and guitarist. The were accompanied on the drums by Tim Lassiter.

Robert, Brian, Rob, Mike, Charlie, Adam, Doogie, Jordan, and Beatle played various blues and classic rock tunes during our jam segments of the evening. These sets will consisted of some Beatles tunes but included oldies from artists who The Beatles drew some of their inspiration.

Thanks to Neil Ward, owner of MVP's, for having The JamHouse in for our tribute show. And thanks to Tammy for keeping the beverages cold and flowing and to Trish for keeping the food hot, delicious, and plentiful. We all had a great time.

Be looking for information early in the new year about our jam and show schedule in 2010 including more special tribute shows.
Tony.

Music soothes the savage soul. So did The Tempered Machine, Illegal Limits and The Spiral at BoneDaddy's.

Nov. 27 (BDH) BoneDaddy's Hideaway: After Thanksgiving Blowout was great.

At 8 PM The Tempered Machine started things off. TTM played some of their modern rock originals and also played some fantastic Fleetwood Mac and other covers. Mary Alice, lead vocalist, had that Stevie Nicks sound nailed. Way to go. Check them out at http://myspace.com/thetemperedmachine

Illegal Limits is a very up beat and hip country band who hails from the Louisburg area and are very popular. They played a lot of Southern Rock, blues, Country, and other great music including some bad ass Jerry Lee Lewis and similar tunes with a rockin' keyboardist setting the pace. Folks ust couldn't help but to hit the dance floor. Check out Illegal Limits at http://mycountryspace.com/illegallimitsband.

Our third band up, The Spiral, laid out some fantastic classic oldies covers from the 60's through today, Beatles, Cream, etc. along with current modern rock of White Stripes. Opening up with the Beatles "Come Together" The Spiral took us all the way through the glory days gone by to remind us of just how great the 60's, 70's, and 80's really was. Check out The Spiral at http://www.myspace.com/ncspiral

This was a fun night and a great opportunity to meet and hear some new bands who have joined The JamHouse family. I hope you who missed this show will come next time and check out these great bands.

No new posts Our show at TPO on Saturday Nov. 14 was fantastic. See our photoshow link below.

Thanks to everyone who made it out to our show Saturday evening. In case you missed it we had two fantastic bands performing plus an all acoustic set by some of our "founding" JamHouse members and friends.

The evening start around 9 PM or so with our JamHouse friends Neal, Kenny, Jeff, and Jim playing an all acoustic set of some popular oldies. Some easy listening from some of the good ole' days. This was a lot of fun for us fans as well as for acoustic players who really had a ball.

We also head a great show from The Blenders. The Blenders, Mark, Ann, Mike, Joe, and Bob, played a mix of folk, easy listening soft rock, some wonderful blues, and topped off with a little high energy rock and roll. The Blenders style is all mixed up in a blend of covers and originals from many genres and presented to us in such a friendly and appealing way you'll think you're home in front of the fire with family. Well, we were. Our JamHouse family. A class act all the way.

Now before Mark and the others formed The Blenders, Mark and Joe played with a group called Twist Of Fate who played blues and classic rock. The band unfortunately broke up after losing their drummer a couple of years ago. In the band with Mark and Joe was another guitarist who shared lead and rhythm with Joe. Shelton not only added a fantastic tag team along with Joe he also added much to the vocals as he sang lead on some fantastic older covers that would bring back some great memories of our younger years. You may know Shelton from another band he plays with, Straight No Chaser. Another great local band.

Well guess what? Mark, Joe, and Shelton have now regrouped and have been joined by none other than Bob, from The Blenders. Bob, who for a short while in earlier days, had played drums with Twist Of Fate before TOF acquired a full time drummer. So now the boys are back together and are resurrecting Twist Of Fate as a full time band again. Congratulations guys. I've got a feeling you're gonna be busy though with two bands that's sure to be playing a lot.

Wow, what a show we enjoyed on Saturday evening. It was a busy night with plenty of great music, good food, beer, etc. and many of our JamHouse members, friends, and guests joining us.

Be sure to check out the photoshow made of many of the pics that were taken during the evening. Thanks to all the performers and our JamHouse members and guests for coming out in support of The JamHouse and Raleigh's music scene.

Enjoy!

Laughing Through Your Fingers was a hit at BoneDaddy's Thursday night, Oct. 22. Midlife Crisis opened up and also was great. Our jam went well too. Read on.

Thanks so much to both bands who played tonight. To Don Moody and Midlife Crisis, who opened up the show, and to Hippie Tim and Laughing Through Your Fingers, who closed out the evening, I really appreciate and love you all. Both bands were fantastic.

We had several great jam sessions during the evening too. Thanks goes to Doyle-bass & vocals, to Robert-acoustic & electric guitar, & vocals, to John-guitar & vocals, to Mark, guitar & vocals. There were several others, 2 playing drums & another guitarist, who I didn't get a chance to get their names. The jam sessions were really cool, thank you all.

JamHouse members Hippie Tim and Laughing Through Your Fingers invites everyone to all their upcoming performances. Personally, I think they will be adding a gig or two at BoneDaddy's to their schedule in the new year. To find out more about LTYF and to see their schedule go to www.myspace.com/laughingthru. Thanks, Tony.

Now for a little band history:

"The tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers, and you want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter" - Cream/"Tales of Brave Ulysses" *** "Laughing Through Your Fingers" debuted Saturday night, April 25th, at The Front Row. Their show was fantastic, with a huge awesome sound and vocals that just killed. Since their debut LTYF has been playing regularly throughout the area.

In the JamHouse Forum marquee photo you will see, top to bottom & left to right: Jorg-drums, Shannon-bass & vocals, Stephanie-lead vocals, HippieTim-guitar, and Jeff-guitar & vocals. Congratulations "Laughing Through Your Fingers". You knocked 'em dead at BoneDaddy's. I think both Purple and Mark was impressed.

The band "Loose Screws" performed as our featured band at TPO Saturday night Oct. 24.

Loose Screws played with us at The Pickled Onion Saturay, October 24. They were our featured band during this infamous JamHouse production. This high energy, highly improvisational group was really great and i enjoyed them a lot. We had some jam folks who also had some fun playing as well as hearing Loose Screws.

The Loose Screws play electrifying originals and covers. With the instrumentation ranging from traditional guitar, bass and drum kit, it is accented with a phenomenal hand drummer and a female vocalist who's pipes will blow your mind. Don't forget her incredible ability to play the flute! If you like The Dead, The Allmans, Marshall Tucker, Phish, Jefferson Airplane...ect, then you will love this group.

Thanks for joining us MairiBethe, Joe, Jordan, Josh, and Vince, Loose Screws.

20 Years Gone gave us a fantastic show at TPO on Sat. Oct. 3.

Our thanks goes to our featured band "20 Years Gone". Jenny, Lloyd, Scott, and Ken gave us a great show this past Saturday night, Oct. 3rd. 20YG had a fantastic following in the house and a lot of fun was had by us all. I'm hoping to add 20YG to one of our jams and shows coming up at BoneDaddy's soon.

If any of our JamHouse members want to jam with us at BoneDaddy's this Friday, Oct. 9, or at The Pickled Onion this Saturday, Oct. 10, an RSVP will ensure you plenty of playing time as our line ups can be worked out. The JamHouse was also "On The Road" Aug. 29 and Sept. 5th at The Pickled Onion. See our photoshow of our jam at http://www.photoshow.com/watch/XR8pj6uz.

The Pickled Onion, located at 7901 Falls of Neuse Road, is a very nice venue with great food and drinks. TPO's physical layout includes a huge bar that will easily seat 20 patrons. There are also booths and tables for another 50 or so. My thanks to the Pickled Onion for inviting The JamHouse into their very nice venue. The management and staff make us feel right at home. Service at TPO is fantastic, friendly, focused on every detail. The food and drink is excellant and comes out guickly. I give The Pickled Onion Five Stars! ***Tony ***

BoneDaddy's Hideaway is located at 605 Creekside Drive here in Raleigh. This is just across the street from where the old Long Branch was located. BDH is a private club that offers a fantastic staff, friendly regulars, and a multitude of great bands, jams, and special guests. A small cover charge is usually asked of non member guests. Free hot foods are also offered on most evenings and you can also order food from the nearby Ale House who will deliver to BoneDaddy's.

A review: Southern Reunion, you're back!

Well, you would think that a band who has experienced recent changes in personnel and who hasn't had a lot of time to work through all the kinks might show a few jitters when making their "debut" at O'Malley's last evening. Not so Southern Reunion. With their new frontman Dean "Dino" Pratt strutting his stuff out front for their lead song Southern Reunion opened up with a hard hitting rendition of Grand Funk Railroad's "We're An American Band". What a way to break the ice. Not only for the band, but for us fans as well. From the first moment Southern Reunion was poised, confident, and ready to kick some ass. And that they did.

Every member of SR gave their all to us last night. Not only was Dino as strong as ever at the mic, he seemed to lay claim that the "new" Southern Reunion was one to be reckoned with. There was no backing down by Southern Reunion's new frontman. Dino gave us a strong performance last night. Dino was up beat, energetic, and happy to be among the many friends who came out to welcome him back as frontman. I enjoyed Dino's performance and thought him to again be at the top of his game. Welcome back Dino.

Southern Reunion's guitarists; Charles Langdon, Billy Gerringer, and Robert Hendrix shared all forms of guitar duties; lead, rhythm, and slide guitar. Plus they all added harmony and background vocals. Charles, the ever steady rock, was solid and so cool that he was hot. Charles paved the way and laid down the foundation for the others to build upon. As always. Billy a phenom on guitar, not only roamed all over the stage he joined in and out with the audience too. Never missing a cord while showing us perfection by getting sizzle, smoke, and fire out of an electric guitar. And, making it look easy. Superb. Robert did an outstanding job in many areas. Not only was Robert's guitar playing right on, he provided the lead vocals on several tunes and added special effects to other songs. Robert, the man of many talents, came through on all fronts. Together, Charles, Billy, and Robert showed us a lot of talent and much versatility throughout their performances.

Southern Reunion's bassist, Steve Msarsa, also had an outstanding performance. Steve managed to maintain the low end while bringing a lot of energy out front to add to Dino's "no holds barred" deliverance. Not only was Steve's bass hitting the mark, Steve meshed very well with Dino by providing his own share of harmony and background vocals. Steve was full of energy, stage presence, and audience appeal. Well done Steve.

And then there was one. That's right, the one and only, David Baum. Southern Reunion's drummer, David Baum, rocked the house last night. Besides providing the thunder to the storm David also provided background vocals as well as some lead vocals too. As much as Southern Reunion's song list provided David with ample opportunity to create a seismic event should he want too, he was able to highlight technique along with talent which made David's performance on the drums sound like perfection. Fantastic job Dave.
So to those of you who enjoy classic southern rock and don't mind a little blues to be gently spread throughout the mix you'd better not miss the next performance of Southern Reunion. Southern Reunion takes the best of folks like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Marshall Tucker Band, Tom Petty and more, and delivers it up southern fried with down home pride.

Southern Reunion, you're back! We'll be seeing you again on Saturday, Oct. 17 at MVP's.

Thanks BoneDaddy's Hideaway. Click here for pics and a link to BoneDaddy's.

Tony & The JamHouse would like to thank BoneDaddy's Hideaway for hosting a fantastic charity event for Ina on Saturday Aug. 15th. Many great local bands gave their time and talents to this event including several with close ties to The JamHouse including "Bushhawg" and "The Blenders". Both bands put on a terrific show as did other bands during this all day event including the bands "Neglected Toy's" and "Dog House Retreat". Bone Daddy's Hideaway is a premier location for great entertainment, friendly patrons, lively and hard working staff with great service. The staff, owners, and management at BoneDaddy's makes sure you are welcome and well taken care of. My thanks to Purple and to Mark for hosting this event for Ina. I had a blast at Red\'s. From the look of things you did too. Click here for pics.

Thanks to all who came out to jam and have fun at our latest "The JamHouse On The Road Review". I know that some of you who wanted to come could not make it this time. We'll be doing this again real soon. The next jam at Red's is Sunday, April 26th. Let me know by April 23rd if you will come so we can better prepare and have an even better time next Sunday. It looks like that Thursday night, April 30th, will be our first weekday evening jam at Red's. Let me know by April 28th if you plan to attend this jam. Thanks everybody. Tony.

Interesting quotes:

"Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don't complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Support our local musicians.

Raleigh has plenty of great local bands and fantastic and talented musicians. Most places here in Raleigh and the local area have no cover charge to hear these bands. So have a blast and support our local bands and the musicians who work hard to bring you fantastic music, both covers and originals. Thanks from Tony at The Jamhouse.

Country singer and songwriter Roy Perry.

Roy Perry has been writing and singing country and folk music most of this life. Many of Roy's songs have been inspired by life events which he has expressed through his music. Roy's talents as a fantastic vocalist, guitarist, and inspired songwriter has enabled him to produce over 60 original songs. Roy is a member of The JamHouse Forum and I have had the pleasure to hear him perform. What's next for Roy? Perhaps some live performances in our local area along with some studio recording. I think we might be hearing more from Roy soon.

See Bushhawg at our local area venues. Click here for pics of Bushhawg\'s last performance at Mojo\'s.

Jamhouse member Neil Deasys (easyd), shown in the photo playing the keyboard, and the band Bushhawg, formally known as Elbowroom, put on a great show at Mojo's In Apex. Bushhawg has added new music, new sound, and new back up and harmany vocals to go along with Neil's lead vocals. There was good food, good drinks and beer, lots of room, and a friendly crowd at Mojo's. Come out and enjoy Bushhawg's next show and support BUSHHAWG and Raleigh area venues. Thanks. Tony.

Extra! Extra! Read all about it. Brian VanOrman records his first CD. All original music! Click here for pics.

Congratulations Brian on completion of your "original music" recording project. That's right folks, Brian wrote all lyrics and music, was lead vocalist, and played guitar. He also performed all arrangement duties and pretty much everything else except for playing the other instruments. Wow! Brian just wanted some of the rest of us to have a little fun too. Now Brian's project is in the care of our friend Todd Fitch of The Sound Shop Recording Studio. The recording was made on Nov. 15th. Thanks Todd, you did a great job. Friends recording with Brian included, in photo L to R: Jeff Molter-bass guitar; Brian VanOrman-lead vocals and guitar, Todd Fitch-recording engineer, Chuck Leonard-drums, Rod Bono-drums, and Ken Turner-guitar and back up vocals. This photo was taken just minutes after Todd let us know that all was complete and a huge success. A big "Thank You" goes to these guys for their help, cooperation, and especially for their friendship, in working with Brian and giving him all the support he needed to complete his recording project. What a fantastic job you all did. Musicians Honoring Musicians. That's what it's all about. Well done. Tony.

Chuck Leonard shines in

Jerry's Girls, a wonderful and hilarious musical production closed with a bang Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008. The Meredith Ensemble Theater just completed it's run of Jerry's Girls - A Musical Review Starring The Music And Lyrics of Jerry Herman. Thirteen lovely beauties from Meredith College's Department of Music and The Department of Dance and Theatre performed flawlessly from opening night to their final performance. And what a run it was. The production ran from Wednesday, Nov. 5 and close Sunday, Nov. 16. And to top it all off The JamHouse Forum was a co star in this fantastic production. Yes, JamHouse Forum member Mr. Chuck Leonard, was featured in the production doing what no one else can do like he does. Chuck starred as drummer in the shows orchestra. And not only did Chuck do a superb job with the orchestra, he played as part of the cast as well with his very effective interplay with the shows featured singers and dancers. It was a fabulous time had by all, cast, crew, and audience. Chuck is a personal friend of mine and I am proud of Chuck Leonard and his performance. I ask all JamHouse Forum members to congratulate Chuck on his success. Thank you Chuck for all you do in your support of the Raleigh music scene. *** Click on the heading above for more pics. *** You can read a short bio on Chuck Leonard further down this same page. Check it out. Thanks. Tony.

The Blenders are mixing up the local music scene and adding that certain splash that makes a hit. See The Blenders at your next opportunity.

That's right, The Blenders. Five musicians from a wide range of musical backgrounds somehow found one another and have created a new recipe for success unlike any you've heard in a while. Mix five parts musician, five parts vocalist, five parts talent, with five parts of tremendous fun and creativity. Shake ingredients and slowly pour over a chilled stage. Now sit back and let the magic work and before you can ask for a slice of lime, you're hit full face with the newest and coolest sound that's called "The Blenders." Now you have it. Perfect. Meet Mike on keys and vocals, Ann on guitar and lead vocals, Mark on bass and vocals, Joe on lead guitar and vocals, and Bob on drums and vocals. What a fantastic mix of just the right stuff from folk to blues to rock and more. With the fresh, lively, and fun lyrics of their own original music interlaced with the best covers The Blenders sound is right on and often takes you back to many fond memories of the music that made you pay attention while it made musical history. You've just got to hear The Blenders at your next opportunity. For more about The Blenders and for booking go to www.theblendersnc.com. Thanks for reading. Tony @ The JamHouse.

Hey, you up there. Take us to the nearest Raleigh live band venue. Quick!

Man, I thought it was suppose to be the other way around. I thought "they" were suppose to say "Hey, you down there. Take us to your leader." Well anyway, I certainly understand the hurry to get to Raleigh's live music venues. Catch our local bands at places like: Bonedaddy's Hideaway, MVP's, Fat Daddy's, Scooters, O'Malley's, Crowley's, The Pour House, The Big easy, The Blue Martini, and the 42nd Street Oyster Bar, and The Long Branch. Support our local bands and our local live music venues. Thanks, Tony.
